So its that time of the year again, where I surprise myself yet again! Day 6 of fasting, and not only am I in a very cheerful mood but I am energetic! On a regular day if I happen to miss breakfast and lunch you can be pretty sure I am not the person you want to hang out with (I get cranky! I mean really!) but now its day 6 and nothing!!! (That banana seems to be working like spinach for popey!)
Saturday is durga astami...time to go to the temple and give gifts to girls. This is my favourite part of navraatri. I just love it when their eyes light up on seeing ziploc bags full of goodies - (lipgloss, candy, hairbands/ribbons, money and prashad-halva-kheer-puri-channa).
Last time I learned a valuable lesson. Girls sometimes have brothers, and when you see them look at you accusingly (no ziploc bags for them!) you feel bad. So this time, I decided to get a bag of chocolates and give it to them.
Jai mata di...you guys and gals have a rocking navraatri/durga pooja and dashara.

hi V
Happy Navratri to you too ! This goodies in a ziploc bag is a news to me ! What is that ? We will be going to temple on Sunday and would like to go there prepared if this is some sort of standard thing to be done out here !!!
Flower/Aria
Thanks. Hmm, yeah If I were in Delhi I would have personally delivered a ziploc for you par kya karen...:D
Thanks Punds.
Cheti,
Well, I don't know if it is a standard. But yeah don't be surprised if some people are giving food/gifts to little kids esp. girls. Because the belief is little girs are a representation of the durga...:)
General contents of a ziploc are food-money-gifts. Last time I saw this women, who had put in pencils and crayons in the ziploc. So cute.

@ Vi,
Never heard fasting on Navratri.... Infact we make nine sweet meats for each day of the festival.. Is the fasting part out of choice?
Hi, Friend
Navratri, the festival of nights, lasts for 9 days with three days each devoted to
worship of Ma Durga, the Goddess of Valor, Ma Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth and
Ma Saraswati and many many happy Durga Puja.
